The Virginia Film Office presents the annual VA Indie Fest, formerly known as the Virginia Independent Film Festival. Films are selected in the categories of Documentaries, Short Films and Features by a panel of judges and screened at the Byrd Theatre in late February.

The films are shown in a three part screening series and a winner in each category is announced. Additionally, audience members have the opportunity vote for their favorite film in each category and those films will be awarded Audience Choice Awards. Proceeds from the screening benefit the Virginia Production Alliance.

Submissions are only accepted from Virginia residents and students attending Virginia schools. Submissions for the 2011 VA Indie Fest will be accepted starting in mid September.
