PBS Program Premiere: Lafayette

"Lafayette: The Lost Hero" chronicles the life and legend of Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, the Marquis de Lafayette — an intriguing, neglected, and controversial figure from both the American and French Revolutions. The one-hour documentary premieres nationally on PBS stations on Monday, September 13 at 10 p.m. ET.  (Check local listings.)

"Lafayette: The Lost Hero" is a biographical film that is entertaining and informative, with lush dramatizations, evocative footage and animations that give cultural background.  The film also details with an engaging narrative the tremendously popular tour Lafayette made of America, which led to the naming of many great American locales in his honor -- and included a number of stops throughout the state of Virginia.

This documentary filmed in 2007, partly in Virginia: Outside Richmond, at Mt. Vernon, in Yorktown, at Monticello, and on the grounds of the University of Virginia.

Television Series Looking for Virginia Restaurants in need of a BOOST!

A Philadelphia production company and national cable network are casting restaurants for a new television show shooting this summer and fall.

The restaurant should be one that is at risk of closing and is in need of a boost in customers, good reviews and overall revenue.  The restaurant’s owners and management will be taking guidance from a celebrity chef and must be willing to overhaul their menu, décor and theme to put them back on the path to success!  Being family run is definitely a plus.  Restaurant owners must have strong, outgoing personalities.

Maybe you are an old restaurant that just isn’t as great as it used to be and could use an update?  Or a new restaurant that just hasn’t been able to hit its stride yet?

Attention Writers and Filmmakers:

DC Shorts is calling for submissions to its upcoming Film Festival and its Screenplay Competition. All entries will receive feedback from the judging panels.

The DC Shorts Film Festival (September 9-16, 2010) turns the spotlight on truly independent short films, created by new and established filmmakers in an era when the art of filmmaking is opening to all. We select films of every genre and niche for our competition screenings — with a special focus on films created by metropolitan Washington, DC-based directors and writers. After each screening, filmmakers have the opportunity to speak to the audience as part of a moderated panel.  Cash and gift prizes -- plus feedback for all entries.  Please visit http://dcshorts.com/film for more information, including submission deadlines.

The DC Shorts Screenplay Competition (October 2010) is a very different kind of screenwriting competition. A panel of judges consisting of filmmakers, screenwriters and critics will review and provide coverage (feedback) for scripts of 15 pages or less. 5 - 7 finalists will be featured during ScriptDC — a weekend of screenwriting events for DC regional writer and filmmakers, where their scripts will be read in front of a live audience — and one will walk away with $2,000 to shoot their project!
